Welcome Letter Costa Rica Gathering July 2021

I would like to welcome you in joining us in Costa Rica.
We are 40 people at this time.
As you know, to fly to Costa Rica you’ll need to buy COVID insurance to cover you for the length of your stay. You can purchase this insurance locally through your insurance company or book it through insubuy.com . The length of time that you can stay in Costa Rica is based on the length of your insurance to a maximum of 90 days. You’ll also need to fill up a QR form within 24-48 hours of your departure. You can fill out this form at www.salud.go.cr You do not need a COVID test to enter Costa Rica, however, the majority of airlines need a pre-departure test. Check with your airline.
We are looking forward to sharing space and time in our piece of paradise with you. There is no need to share the details of the gathering. I’ll just tell you: prepare for simplicity.
The temperature of where we are, should be between 18°C to 26°C (65°F to 80°F) during the day, and a bit chilly in the middle of the night, however there is no norm. Please check the weather for Guacimo, Costa Rica and subtract 5°C (10°F) from that, to know how to pack. We will be sleeping on a wooden deck raised above the ground, with a roof above our heads.
What you will need to bring is:
• Mattress
• Warm sleeping bag or blankets
• Pillow
• Wellies / rubber boots (without lining recommended)
• Torch and batteries. There's no electricity.
• Sunblock
• Insect repellant
• Hat
• Swim suit
• Rain coat with hood or thin rain poncho
• Personal items; clothes, long pants, towel, etc.
• Flip flops / rubber sandals if you
have them
Try to avoid bringing red/brightly colored clothing.
We will provide soap, shampoo and conditioner. If you need to bring your own products, make sure they are biofriendly. Bringing rubber boots is very important because of ant bites, mud and unexpected situations. Basically, anywhere we walk, that is what we will wear, not hiking shoes.
We will have breakfast in the morning and one cooked meal a day in the afternoon. This may include: rice, pasta, beans, plantain, yucca, potato, green salad, chicken, fish and whatever else is available locally. During the day we will have available: pineapple, papaya, banana, and any
fruit available locally, bread, honey and tea. Water is collected from a spring in the land. Due to lack of refrigeration (and ants) storage is difficult. If you require anything besides what is mentioned, feel free to bring what you like, in sealed packaging.
I would recommend also bringing a discreet bag to carry your passport in. Leave anything you do not need at home, i.e. jewelry etc.
You will not need any money while you are with us except the gathering
fee. The official currency in Costa Rica is Colones, and the exchange rate is about 610 Colones to the US dollar, however, the US dollar is accepted in most places. Just make sure you have small notes as breaking $100 or $50 might be difficult. For the cost of the gathering, you can bring me cash in US dollars in large bills. Please try to bring new bills. Do not bring traveler's cheques.
When you arrive at the airport, you will need to have an address to stay.

You are a tourist visitor, planning to stay at the finca. After you pick up your luggage and you go through customs, you will be out in the street as San Jose Airport doesn’t have a waiting area. Keep an eye out for a sign indicating ‘Abdy’. If, for whatever reason, the driver is not there at the exact pick-up time, just wait. The pick-up times are tentative and based on everybody’s arrival times. If somebody’s time changes, we have to adjust the pick up time.
Those of you who will already be in Costa Rica prior to your gathering should be at the airport at least 10 mins before your pick-up time. The driver will collect all of you together and walk you to the minivan.
A tentative pick-up schedule is attached, and also posted in the bulletin under “Costa Rica Gathering 2021” on the website. We might have a couple of last-minute attendees, therefore the schedule might be slightly adjusted, so please make sure to check the schedule on the website prior to your departure. Please check your flight information on the pick-up schedule for accuracy, and email connect@abdy.info with any corrections.
If, for any reason, you could not make the flight, or your flight is delayed by more than an hour, please try to text or call me at 506 8306 1943. We might be able to accommodate you in the next shuttle, so as not to keep everybody waiting for you. (Also, in the occasion of emergency, your family can reach you through this number). Of course, I will not always have reception due to geographical reasons. If you cannot get through, just try again or leave a detailed message.
Your journey will take 2-3 hours in the minivans if there is no road closures. After that, you will transfer your luggage to 4X4s which shall take you to Monasterio. Everything has been prearranged on a tight schedule. Please do not make the driver stop unnecessarily. No shopping on the way!
Please check the bulletin on the website just before your departure in case of last-minute messages or changes to the shuttle schedules.

P.S. Monasterio is about two and a half hours drive from San Jose Airport and is in the vicinity of the town of Guacimo, in the province of Limon. The driving directions are:
From the Limon highway (Route 32) you make a right turn (south) immediately after the bridge over ‘Rio Guacimo’. Drive 7 kilometers on that dirt road until you reach a fork, where you will take a right. You will go through a small river which is about three kilometers from the fork. You will eventually arrive at a round house. That is our house. You will continue another kilometer, passing through a river, to reach our base.
These directions are not meant for you to actually use. They are just for the occasion of arriving at a different time than you have indicated and not being able to get in contact with us. A taxi from the airport to Guacimo will cost you around $100. The alternative is to take a bus from the center of San Jose to Guacimo, which costs about $3 and runs every two to three hours. From the center of Guacimo you can get another taxi (4x4 vehicle only!!!) for about $30.

Cómo sabes, para volar a Costa Rica debes comprar un seguro de COVID que cubra toda tu estadía. No necesitas una prueba COVID para ingresar a Costa Rica, sin embargo, la mayoría de las aerolíneas necesitan una prueba previa a la salida. Consulta con tu aerolínea.
Esperamos poder compartir espacio y tiempo en nuestro pedazo de paraíso contigo. No es necesario compartir los detalles del encuentro. Solo te diré: prepárate para la simplicidad.

Trata de evitar traer ropa de color rojo o colores brillantes.
Proporcionaremos jabón, champú y acondicionador. Si necesita traer tus propios productos, asegúrate que sean ecológicos. Llevar botas de caucho es muy importante para evitar picaduras de hormigas, barro y situaciones inesperadas. Básicamente, en cualquier lugar que caminemos, eso es lo que usaremos, no zapatos para caminar.
Desayunaremos por la mañana y una comida cocinada al día por la tarde. Esto puede incluir: arroz, pasta, frijoles, plátano, yuca, papa, ensalada verde, pollo, pescado y cualquier otra cosa que esté disponible localmente. Durante el día tendremos disponible: piña, papaya, plátano y cualquier
fruta disponible localmente, pan, miel y té. El agua se recolecta de un manantial en la tierra. Debido a la falta de refrigeración (y hormigas), el almacenamiento es difícil. Si necesitas algo además de lo que se menciona, no dudes en traer lo que quieras, en un paquete sellado.
También recomendaría traer un bolso discreto para llevar tu pasaporte. Deja todo lo que no necesites en casa, es decir, joyas, etc.
No necesitarás dinero mientras estés con nosotros, excepto el costo del encuentro.
La moneda oficial en Costa Rica son los colones, y el tipo de cambio es de aproximadamente $610 colones por $ 1 dólar estadounidense, sin embargo, el dólar estadounidense se acepta en la mayoría de los lugares. Solo asegúrate de traer billetes de baja denominación, ya que es difícil que reciban billetes de $ 100 o $ 50 dólares. Para el pago del encuentro, puedes traerme dinero en efectivo en dólares de $ 100 o $ 50 ojalá que sean nuevos. No recibo cheques de viajero.

Eres un turista, que planea quedarse en la finca. Después de recoger tu equipaje y pasar por la aduana, vas a estar afuera en la calle, el aeropuerto de San José no tiene zona de espera. Busca un aviso que diga "Abdy". Si, por cualquier razón él conductor no está allí a la hora exacta de recogida, sólo tienes que esperar. Los tiempos de recogida son provisionales y en base a los tiempos de llegada de todos los asistentes. Si alguien tiene cambios en el tiempo de llegada, tenemos que ajustar la hora de recogida.
Aquellos de ustedes que ya están en Costa Rica antes del encuentro, deben estar en el aeropuerto 15 minutos antes de su hora de recogida. El conductor los recogerá a todos juntos y los guiará a la minivan.
El horario tentativo de recogida se publicará en el boletín de "Encuentro en Costa Rica 2021" en el sitio web.
Es posible que tengamos un par de participantes en el último minuto, por lo tanto, el horario puede ser modificado, así que asegúrate de consultar el horario en el sitio web antes de tu salida. Lee la información de tu vuelo en el horario de recogida para verificar la exactitud de la información de tu vuelo y envía un correo electrónico a connect@abdy.info con las correcciones correspondientes.
Si, por algún motivo, no puedes realizar el vuelo o tu vuelo se retrasa más de una hora, por favor envía un mensaje de texto o por WhatsApp o llámame al +506 8306 1943. Es posible que podamos acomodarte en el próximo transporte, para no mantener a todos esperando por ti. (En caso de una emergencia, tu familia puede comunicarse contigo a través de este número). Por supuesto, no siempre tendré recepción por razones geográficas. Si no puedes comunicarte, intenta de nuevo o deja un mensaje detallado.
Tu viaje demorará entre 2 a 3 horas en minivans si no hay lluvia o cierres de carreteras. Después de eso, se transferirá tu equipaje a un carro 4X4 que te llevará a Monasterio. Todo ha sido arreglado de antemano en un horario apretado. No hagas que el conductor se detenga innecesariamente, así que ve al baño antes de subirte a la minivan y prepara un refrigerio para el viaje de 3 horas y asegúrate que tus botas estén asequibles antes de entrar en la minivan, ya que las necesitarás cuando llegues a Monasterio. ¡¡No hagan compras ni se detengas en el camino!!

PD: Monasterio esta aproximadamente a dos horas y media en carro desde el aeropuerto de San José, y se encuentra en la vecindad de la localidad de Guácimo, en la provincia de Limón. Las direcciones de conducción son: desde la autopista Limón (Ruta 32) hacer un giro a la derecha (sur) inmediatamente después del puente sobre 'Río Guácimo'. Conducir 7 kilómetros en ese camino de tierra hasta llegar a una bifurcación, donde se gira a la derecha. Pasaran a través de un pequeño río que está a unos tres kilómetros de la bifurcación. Es muy probable que lleguen a una casa redonda. Esa es nuestra casa. Continúen un kilómetro más, atravesando un río, para llegar a nuestra base.
Estas instrucciones no están destinadas para tu uso en realidad. Son sólo en caso de que llegues en un horario diferente al que indicaste y no haya sido posible ponerse en contacto con nosotros. Un taxi desde el aeropuerto hasta Guácimo puede costar alrededor de $ 100 dólares. Otra alternativa es tomar un autobús desde el centro de San José a Guácimo, que cuesta $ 3 dólares y sale cada dos o tres horas. Desde el centro de Guácimo puedes conseguir otro taxi (¡¡¡Debe ser 4x4 solamente !!!) por alrededor de $ 30.
Nota: Para los colombianos requieren llevar el carnet de la vacuna amarilla.
